Liz Truss resigned as U.K. prime minister

After 45 days of being the prime minister of the United Kingdom, Liz Truss announced her resignation. It started with her finance minister Kwasi Kartteng's attempt to slash the taxes for the highest earners and biggest corporations, without saying anything about the plans for how to pay for them. Truss's favorability had fallen by -70% and the Conservative Party lawmakers started to publicly contemplate replacing her.

Liz Truss assumed her position during difficult times in the UK. The death of Queen Elizabeth, many strikes, and the economical and political crisis, which is known throughout the whole of Europe after the Covid-19 pandemia and the Russia-Ukraine war, contributed to the enormous pressure which was laying on the new prime minister. It doesn't change the fact that her governance didn't end up too well. She led to the financial crisis development and the even bigger inflation of the British pound. Her short-termed position as the Prime Minister wasn't great. She is criticized by many politicians and people from around the world and I think that her resignation wasn't a piece of bad news for them.

  1. She was a mistake - crashed the pound, didn't listen to any voices of reason within the Tory party, ignored the advice of economists. Rishi Sunak seemed a much more reasonable choice when Truss was chosen and let's hope he'll now do better than her..
