Why people smoke cigarettes and why they are so addictive?
People smoke cigarettes since the early 19th century. Cigarettes was first introduced in United States and it was popularized during the Civil War. Now it is the most popular way to consume tobacco. About 19% of adults across the world smoke cigarettes regularly. The most of them started doing it when they were teenagers Two main reasons why people try it for the first time is that they are curious how does it feel or they think that smoking is “cool” and they want to show off to their friends. The first try is also affected by the smoker environment, when their parents or theirs friends smoke, they are more likely to start. Popularization of smoking cigarettes is mostly caused by tobacco industries which spend huge amounts of money for marketing making cigarettes or even e-cigarettes more accessible. The biggest problem which cause this wide usage of cigarettes is the addiction. Addictiveness of tobacco is caused by nicotine - chemical which give the pleasure for the smoker. It works like other addictive drugs, nicotine stimulate brain’s reward circuits, which produce dopamine. People who regularly smoke have a problem with quitting because of the emotional and physical withdrawal symptoms when they stop smoking. Addictiveness and good marketing of cigarettes make them wide used and making it one of the most popularized stimulants.
