Krokodil, the most devastating drug in the world
Krokodil is the street name for desomorphine, one of the opioid substances. It is a toxic homemade drug, which is produced by combining codeine tablets with various chemicals like gasoline or industrial cleaners. This drug is mostly used in poor rural areas in Russia as a cheaper alternative to heroin. Like all opioids, desomorphine is a highly addictive substance that completely ruins users' lives. Krokodil is injected by users into their veins, giving them 2 hours of euphoric effects, which are actually about 10 times stronger than typical morphine effects. Because of the short duration of effects, users start to repeat the doses to avoid really strong withdrawal symptoms. A lot of users doing this drug develop extreme skin ulcerations, infections, and even gangrene, their skin changes color to green, grey, and black which is similar the crocodile skin. Referring to this awful side effect, the drug is called Krokodil or even Zombie Drug. But the skin devastation is not the only side effect of desomorphine. This toxic drug injection can develop blood poisoning, meningitis, bone infections, tooth loss, liver and kidney damage, powerful respiratory depressant effects, finally leading to overdose and death. These horrible side effects make krokodil the most physically and mentally devastating drug in the world, luckily drug is not so widespread, it is actually only used by the poorest people in some areas in Russia, who are already addicted to opioids.
