How to make the soldier stronger? Drug use during war

Today, drugs are used in many different ways. But the most often people use drugs for two purposes. Recreationally, to intoxicate themselves and have fun, or as a medicine, some drugs support the organism with fighting many illnesses. Most of us didn't know that drugs are also used in the military. Apart from using it to help soldiers with injures, relaxation, and socialization, drugs were used in many wars to make soldiers stronger, remain alert, and fight longer. Because of that wars bring with them a lot of addiction cases. When the civil war ended, about 400.000 soldiers were addicted to morphine, which was used there as a painkiller and as a cure for diarrhea. During World War 2 the most popular was amphetamine, which was popularized by germans who were giving it to their soldiers to enhance their energy and performance.
The use of stimulants in the military is still a big problem today. It turns out that soldiers actually consume more intoxicating substances than civilians. A lot of veterans come back from war with addiction, PTSD, and other mental health problems, that ruins their later life.
Drugs are used in many ways, but during the war, many of them were actually popularized. By the authorities who wanted to make their army stronger and have an advantage over opponents.

  1. One more reason to be a pacifist. Although stereotypical pacifists would quite enjoy some drugs too: a joint or some LSD.
